It can’t Be Five Years…………….

Well yeah, it can. Six actually.

At the first attempt at soap making, and 6 years later, I still make notes. There are too many outcomes and results, good and bad, to remember, and I learn from my mistakes. At the end of 2012, I made my first batch of soap, and made my notes on its’ failure. My only regret is that I didn’t take a picture, but I was probably too busy bawling. But that didn’t stop me for long. (Taurus) At the beginning of 2013, these pictures show my first successful batch of melt and pour soap, and I was hooked. It looked exactly like bars of soap I had purchased in Nova Scotia. So I was on the road to something.

In the next 5 years, I spent countless hours poring over recipes. Collecting tools, molds, utensils. Honing my craft. Making lots of mistakes. But coming out the other side, one bar of cold process soap at a time. And now, I can confidently report……..the successes outnumber the messes.

I have become braver about trying new products and methods, but I don’t stray far from my original values. I try to produce healthy products that we can safely use every day. Soaps, scrubs, lip balms, bath bombs, men’s products, whatever it may be. A little bit of me goes into each and every product. I loved it 5 years ago, and I still love it today.

Here’s to 2018, marking 5 years of sales for Black Rafter SoapWorks.

Thank you.
